MAYONG : THE WORLD OF MAGIC

ASSAM, a beautiful and unique state of our motherland INDIA. The state has its beautiful nature, culture and tradition. But this colorful state has a dark shade in it.

MAYONG is said as a land of black magic and witchcraft.

Mayong is situated 40 km from Guwahati (capital of Assam) in Marigaon district of Assam, on the bank of river Brahmaputra. Mayong was once considered as the cradle of black magic in the country.

Mayong is said to be the capital of black magic and witchcraft.

The name Mayong is derived from Sanskrit word Maya, which mean illusion. Therefore it is considered as land of illusion. It is one of the old historical famous kingdom ruled by Hidimba's dynasty. Hidimba was the wife of Bhim (second son of pandav from Mahabharata). Shri Ghanakanta Singha Dev is the current king of the Mayonng from the Hidimba dynasty. The king has the same respect, obedience and dignity by the people as it was earlier.
People here worship Goddess SHAKTI and there are many temple of goddess Bhagavati. There is a myth about the temple that not only the animals but also the humans are sacrificed in front of the goddess for the welfare of the people. If anyone enters into the temple wearing a red cloth the person will be hypnotized by the goddess and will be vanished from the earth.

The people here worship a planet in ancient times named byadhi. The people here imagine the planeet as black art sorcery. It was the starting of astrology and practice of witchcraft. The famous tantrik (wizard) here are SHRI TILAK HAZARIKA and LAXMI RAM NATH.

Mayong is full of super natural stories. Except a few, the spell were not written but passed from generation to generation. People come from abroad to learn Tantrik vidya (black magic and witchcraft), even the student of psychology from around the world come here to learn black magic.
Mayong has now became a hot spot for tourism and archaeology beacuse of its wild life and some of the ancient manuscript of black magic and Ayurveda.

Mayong is a tourist and archaeological location because of its rich wildlife, archaeology pilgrimage, eco-tourismadventure tourismcultural tourism and river tourism. There are numerous archaeological relics and artefacts, including books on black magic and Ayurveda at the Mayong Central Museum and Emporium, which was opened in 2002. Very close to Mayong is the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. This Sanctuary has the highest density of ONE HORNED RHINOCEROS in the world.
