LARGEST SALT DESERT IN WORLD.


THE GREAT RANN OF KUTCH



The Rann of Kutch is a marvelous place to visit in Gujarat, India. It's the world largest salt desert and spread  over 16000 square kilometer. The best thing about it is that it's underwater during the monsoon season in India and for the remaining 8 months the whole land is cover with white salt. This place is also known as White Rann.

The climate there change according to the weather condition of the country. During summer the temperature is between 44 to 50 degree Celsius and in winter it can go below 0 degree Celsius.  

In winter the great Rann of Kutch is a breeding ground for FLAMINGOS and PELICANS. Its the only place
in India where Flamingo come to breed and is home of 13 species of Lark.

The little Rann of Kutch is famous for the INDIAN WILD ASS SANCTUARY, home of the worlds last
 population of Indian wild ass. The other mammals includes Indian wolf, desert fox, golden jackal, chinkara, 
Nilgai and the near threatened Black buck. It is the residing place for migrated birds and home for more 
than 200 species of birds.


At night, a beautiful dance with lights called CHIR BATTI (ghost lights) is performed in the rann. 
The unique handicraft of Kutch is world famous. 

To visit Kutch one need to take permission from the government of Gujarat because its a sensitive place due to
presence of Pakistan border.
